Uptick in Fraudulent Unemployment Claims

In conjunction with the recent increase in legitimate unemployment claims, there has been an unfortunate uptick in fraudulent unemployment claim attempts initiated by scammers. Neither ExponentHR or Employers Edge file unemployment claims on an employee’s behalf; rather, Employers Edge simply receives a file feed from ExponentHR assisting with the claims process once an employee does file. Therefore, if there is a claim for a current employee, this is a fraudulent claim and is not related to their processes.

What to do if you receive an unemployment claim notification either directly from the state or from Employers Edge for a current employee?

  1. Notify that employee immediately.

  2. It is imperative the employee then contact the state to report the fraud as soon as possible. Please find attached a spreadsheet with links to the state workforce agencies.

  3. Have the employee draft a statement (email or written) and Employers Edge will provide the statement in their response to the state.

Encompass, along with our partner Employers Edge, are here to help you should you have any questions or concerns in this regard. Please reach out to your Client Experience Manager with any questions.
